WE SAID IT HERE FIRST: IT’S UG-POP TIME
If you’ve been too busy styling your paedo-tache and neglecting JUKE, you might not have noticed that the underground has gotten a healthy injection of cheese of late.
A number of kewl, credible artists have been turning to pop, namely commercial r&b, for their sonic moodboard. Finally, artists working with borderline cheeseball vocals and smooth melodic hooks are sweetening the deal with that elusive something our more cerebral bros can stroke their chins to.
We can’t say we’re fully prepared: for so long the underground has tried to keep away from the world of corporate fat cats and plastic-chested bimbos ready to put their knees through hell for a go on the fame-train: but we’re feeling it.
When we’re not applying catchy names to tenuous genres (you decide), we’re making mixtapes, so here’s our first UG-POP © taster
